“Wish I Was Here” explores the duality of presence and longing. On one hand, it reflects the feeling of being mentally distant, wishing to be more present in the moment. On the other hand, it represents the artist’s projection of herself into the scenes depicted in each painting. This exhibition takes you on a micro vacation, transporting you from the serene Swiss Alps to the vibrant Côte d’Azur, and into idyllic grasslands. It is a visual journey inspired by the desire to travel, the longing to have a dog, and the hedonistic lifestyle of modern times. Through her work, Zong contemplates the perpetual cycle of desire. She invites us to reflect on whether it might be beneficial to always harbor some desires, even if we never fully realize them. Perhaps, in the endless pursuit of wanting, we find a deeper connection to our own aspirations and dreams.
